-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've noticed A LOT of threads lately about how people should bring their paintball stuff with them on the plane, below is information taken from the TSA website on how to transport paintball equipment/tanks with you.

Our Security Officers will NOT remove the seal or regulator valve from the cylinder at the checkpoint. If the cylinder is sealed (i.e. the regulator valve is still attached), the cylinder is prohibited and not permitted through the security checkpoint, regardless of the reading on the pressure gauge indicator. Our Security Officers must visibly ensure that the cylinder is completely empty and that there are no prohibited items inside.
There is a compressed gas cylinder exception for both carry-on and checked baggage that allows 2 compressed gas cylinders fitted into a self-inflating life-jacket and 2 spare cartridges with the approval of the aircraft operator.
Please note: Many of the seals/regulators used in paintball are not designed to be removed from their cylinder by the end user. The seal/regulator should only be removed and reinstalled by a factory trained technician.
Passengers considering air travel with a compressed air or CO2 system would be advised to contact its manufacturer for guidance in locating a qualified technician, or to consider shipping the system to their destination via a parcel service.

As an experienced traveler with gear here is what I do before I travel by air:
HP TANKS: 1- De-gas your tank. Unscrew the reg from the tank. I then take a small piece of bubblewrap and wrap up the reg to prevent damage. 2- I then cover the bottle top with a small piece of clear rap to prevent sand, dirt or dust to enter the tank. NO TAPE- just clear food wrap. 3- Then put it all back into the original box and tape a note to the box that states "This HP Tank is open for inspection"; dont forget to stick a info card with your name, cell, etc on the box, just incase. 4- when you pack it, make it surrounded with a few shirts for extra padding; Also, keep it near the upper part of your bag as to make it easy for TSA to look at it - the less work they do, the better...
Marker: 1- remove/ clear the marker of any extras that might break off easy (Ie feednecks, etc). Also, I remove the batteries mainly so the TSA wont think its something else. 2- Use the original box with the marker, or use a cloth carry case to transport it, just like you would when you goto a field. 3- Put a business card/ info card on or in the box with your name, number, etc. 4- Pack it with care
